What is the Google’s new anti-spam policy in 2024?

Rated as one the largest defense upgrades in recent year, the New Anti-spam policy of 2024 by Google aims to
improve security and minimize the amount of spam received by their users by
upgrading their defense system.

This upgrade uses ArtificialIntelligence to detect and flag spammy emails, which would have otherwise
gotten past Gmail’s defenses. The update, starting in 2024 will require that
bulk senders authenticate their emails, make it easy to unsubscribe and must
stay under the reported spam threshold.

Who is the Bulk Sender?

A Bulk Sendor is anyone who sends out5000 or more commercial emails per day to Google. This includes personal Gmail
accounts, not Google Workspace accounts. This daily threshold considers all the
emails coming from an entire organization, irrespective of platform used to
send them or the messaging type.

This includes –

·      Marketing emails- likenewsletters or event invites

·      Automatic messages- likepassword reset emails or thank you messages

·      Operational emails- likeinvoices or product updates.

This threshold includes any emailsbeing sent to anyone including prospects, current or partners.

What will result for non-compliance?

Starting from 1st February2024, Google will block all the messages coming from bulk sending organizations
with an abuse complaint rate of 0.3% or higher. Once blocked it will take weeks
to be unblocked again and includes fixing the problem that caused a block in
the first place and contacting Google Help.

How to comply with the new anti-spam regulations?

Google is highlighting 3 key actionsin order to be seen as a legitimate sender-

1.    Authentication: Senders must authenticateemails to identify the identity of the sender. Set up DKIM to protect your
domain against spoofing, and prevent messages from being flagged as spam.
Spoofing is an email attack that uses the ‘From Address’, which appears to be
from the impersonated organization or domain.

2.    Easy unsubscribe: It will be required toinclude unsubscribe link in all the emails to allow the recipient to
unsubscribe with one click and must be processed within 2 days.
